Aboriginal elder wins nation's top art prize

Posted by Aboriginal Art Directory | 20.08.08

The Adelaide Advertiser reports on the Telstra awards:

The artist has been a finalist eight times, but aged 83 and frail, she did not come to Darwin from her traditional homeland west of Alice Springs to collect her award.

Sarita Quinlivan, her agent at Papunya Tula Arts Centre, said Napanangka had long been acknowledged by the women of Kintore as their supreme artist.

"So it is good that she is really the winner," she said.
